The Basics of Roulette
Roulette has long been one of the premier casino games, known for its glamour, mystery and excitement since its invention in 17th-century France. Beginners can learn quickly yet it offers surprising depth of strategy with big rewards at stake.
The game of American roulette is played on a green felt table featuring a grid of numbers and betting areas on it, each representing a specific form of bet. Each area corresponds to one type of bet. Aside from single and double zero betting areas, there are also 12 red/black spaces on the wheel marked for groupings of numbers called “dozens.” Each dozen has unique odds and payouts; for instance completing number one will cost 37 chips but will pay out 35-1 (35 times odds of payout).
Though this game is simple to play, there are numerous bets you can select. These bets can be divided into two categories: Inside and Outside Bets. Inside bets involve betting on specific numbers or small clusters within the main number grid (1 to 36). Although payouts for these bets may be lower, your chances of success increase considerably.
Outside bets involve placing large groups of numbers arranged in a square or rectangle around the edge of the table, typically with payouts that are much greater but lower chances of success; for instance, bets placed on consecutive numbers within either one column (six consecutive numbers) or adjacent corners will pay out 8:1.
Roulette is one of the most beloved casino games around, so much so that it can be found virtually in every casino worldwide. Before beginning to play this popular casino game, however, there are some important things you should remember before beginning this journey.
Before each spin, the dealer gives players the time and space to place their bets on the roulette table. Players may place bets on individual numbers, groups of numbers or just red or black color as desired. Once all bets have been made, he or she will announce “No more bets,” to indicate that betting for this round has closed and pay out winners before beginning another round.
Not only are the standard roulette bets available, but there are also a few special bets such as the En Prison Rule which reduces house edge by half on even money bets when made by a player and doubling up rules which increase winning chances by increasing odds by increasing double up bets.
When you are ready to leave the roulette table, simply place all your remaining roulette chips back onto the table and inform the dealer you would like to cash out. They will give you regular casino chips in exchange, which allows you to either take your winnings home with you or leave and try again later on.
