The HK Prize for History Students

The Hong Kong Prize (HK Prize) is an award presented to students studying Hong Kong history at the University of Hong Kong. It provides undergraduate and postgraduate students who conduct research related to Hong Kong history with scholarships from undergraduate to postgraduate study levels. Established by Professor Wang Gungwu in February 2013, using his loan balance as support for those pursuing history studies, this award has since grown considerably over its first three years of operation.

The University of Hong Kong Scholarship program, popularly known as HK Prize, provides all local and overseas students with a chance to engage in historical research and understand the relationship between historical events and changes in society. Furthermore, this award fosters awareness of Hong Kong’s unique heritage and culture.

Winners of the HK Prize will receive both a cash award and the chance to showcase their work to Hong Kong government, policymakers, business community leaders and other stakeholders. In addition, winners can participate in academic workshops and seminars organized by HKIC and its partners to further advance their career prospects.

This year’s eighth Inter-school Competition of Study Projects on Hong Kong History and Culture came to a successful close today (September 25), with winners receiving their awards today (September 25). Over 200 entries from schools across Hong Kong participated in this year’s event; winning projects were selected based on relevance to theme, systematic use of collected materials, objectivity in analysis, citations/footnotes used appropriately and overall assessment of quality.

This season, HKJC has raised the total prize money pool to more than HK$8 million; Group 1 and 3 contests each received an increase of five million HK$ each. This increase will encourage participation by Class 2 horses all the way up to Griffin while also improving racing quality.

Starting this season, the Hong Kong Jockey Club (HKJC) has increased prize money across all classes of racing – Class 1, Group 2 and Group 3. This will enable more racehorses to win each fixture’s top prize of HK$2 Million while guaranteeing first prize amounts remain above HK$3 million next year.

The Hong Kong Jockey Club will continue its efforts in supporting horse racing while striving for excellence in all areas of our operations. Our customers, employees, and community can expect us to work tirelessly towards producing results they will appreciate – we look forward to another successful and eventful year together – thank you all for being part of it all!
