The Hong Kong Prize is an annual competition that recognizes student excellence both academically and extracurricularly. Winners are celebrated at an awards ceremony where they receive cash prizes as well as access to Hong Kong research facilities, plus they present their ideas directly to key stakeholders within the development sector.

This year’s finalists include activists fighting for freedom and democracy who face imprisonment or other forms of persecution; social justice and community service initiatives (like sheltering homeless adults); as well as individuals that show that Hong Kong remains a place of hope, even during difficult times. All nominees illustrate Hong Kong as an inspiring place.

Researchers from HKUST across all fields of science and technology made record numbers of submissions for this prize – particularly artificial intelligence, life and health, new materials and energy and advanced manufacturing. A panel of judges comprising scientists from universities and industries both locally and overseas selected winners. This prestigious award encourages academic researchers to continue engaging in innovative exploration, establish themselves here in Hong Kong while serving both their nation and world at large.
