The Sidney Prize and the Hillman Prize For Journalistic Integrity
A Sydney Prize is an acclaimed award bestowed upon individuals for making outstanding contributions to society. Not only do these prizes serve as recognition, but they also inspire other to continue working and achieve their goals. Depending on the type of prize awarded, winners could receive substantial sums that they can use toward furthering their studies or promoting science within their communities; or give their winnings away to help those in need.
This prize, named for a Dartmouth College professor who inspired his students to strive for excellence, honors undergraduate writing excellence across three areas: scholarship, teaching and leadership for liberal arts education. Established in memory of someone who believed knowledge can open doors into understanding our world today, its legacy lives on today with this award presented annually at Phi Beta Kappa’s national convention in Columbus Ohio. The Sydney Prize recipient will be recognized at their awards banquet.

Winners are announced on the second Wednesday each month; prizewinners receive a $500 honorarium designed by New Yorker cartoonist Edward Sorel; nominations are open to journalists from any media outlet, including online sources.
